In these times of unrest and catastrophe, we are constantly faced with the dilemma of choosing between self-optimisation and regeneration and participation in public and political life. Political disputes are being fought out more fiercely, the tone is becoming sharper, friendships are breaking up.

The exhibition Happy Face / Ugly Circumstances deals with conflicts and contradictions. The works of the 16 artists show this field of tension.

Sculpture and installation, painting and sound art, photography and video art negotiate this critical situation of ambivalence and discrepancy.
